ABOUT PROJECT PARTRIDGE I grew up watching The Partridge Family in its original prime time run on ABC. I bought all their records and my parents allowed me to see David Cassidy in concert when he came to town. After the series ended, the ninety-six episodes lived out a much shorter shelf life in syndicated reruns than its lead-in,  The Brady Bunch , and the Partridges soon became not much more of a pop culture footnote than The Cowsills, the family act that had inspired them. Susan Dey completely turned her back on the show and eventually found greater success on L.A. Law in the 1980s. I saw Cassidy perform again at a small venue in San Diego in the 1990s. His fame had held on a little longer in the UK than it did in the States, and he and his former TV family were nostalgically name-checked in the 1994 British rom-com Four Weddings and a Funeral , the same year he published his first memoir .
